Jon Ginoli, the openly gay guitarist and co-founder of the queercore punk band Pansy Division, is currently on a nationwide book tour, promoting his autobiography. Deflowered: My Life in Pansy Division delves into the reasons why Ginoli felt compelled to live authentically in the punk rock scene of the early '90s.
Though the band was upfront and open about their queercore sensibilities, they were still met with resistance and flat-out homophobia from many of their contemporaries. Yes, they toured with Green Day, but they also struggled with being fully accepted by the more mainstream punk rock genre.
We weren't lying when we told you he was going on a nationwide book tour. In just a few months, Ginoli will hit over 60 venues in 45 cities. That means he should be coming to your town soon!
Most events are completely free, and if you're lucky, you'll hear Ginoli give an acoustic set and see clips from the 2008 documentary Pansy Division: Life in a Gay Rock Band, directed by Michael Carmona.
